While some see it as the world’s garage sale, eBay is actually much more than a haven for antiques and second hand thingamajigs.
Wise indie designer’s are using it to keep their merchandise moving, and build a fan base that sometimes isn’t achieveable through ones web site alone.
Take a look at Pretty Raccoon (whose work I adore, and blogged about on Indie Lust).
Pretty Raccoon is a Powerseller, which means she unloads at least $2K worth of merchandise every month.
Look at her feedback. At the time of this writing, she has sold at least 71 pieces within the past month. (Possibly more, since some people don’t leave feedback.)
The appeal of eBay is that–
- It’s a constant source of traffic.
- It provides access to a worldwide audience.
- Buyers can leave feedback, which in turn encourages more people to purchase from you.
- You don’t have to discount your merchandise to bargain basement prices. Indie designer Supayana has absolutely no problem receiveing $80+ for her handmade tops. And actually $80 is on the low end of the scale.
eBay - done right - can be one of the best kept secrets of savvy indie designers.
